course.

201. An internal breeding programme has been put into effect and this has resulted in 17 puppies being made available for eventual training and use by the force. All dogs bred are pedigree Alsatians or Dobermanns, and only the best are retained. Previously dogs were purchased from overseas or donated by members of the public. The use of these dogs has given valuable support to the Police in preventing and detecting burglaries and robberies and in locating offenders, including the arrest of 11 illegal immigrants.

POLICE BAND

202. The Police Band, under the Director of Music, consists of two sections; a conventional military band as well as pipes and drums.

203. Apart from its main function of providing music for Police Parades, both formal and training, the Band has played at 98 public functions which include concerts in the City Hall and Public Parks, at Race Meetings, Football Matches and occasionally at the arrival and departure of large passenger liners.

COMMUNICATIONS AND TRANSPORT DIVISION

204. A Senior Superintendent of Police is in charge of Communications and Transport Division which is part of Police Headquarters. The uniformed establishment of the Division is 3 Senior Officers, 4 Junior Officers, 24 N.C.Os. and 38 P.Cs. In addition, there are 47 Women N.C.Os. employed as tele- phonists, and 1 Senior and 87 Junior civilian officers employed in Radio Workshops, Radio Stores and on general clerical duties.

Communications

205. During the year the major task carried out by this Division was the re-equipping of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Operations and Marine Division with a new V.H.F. radio net in accordance with the 'Re-organization of Marine Police Communications' plan. The new network is now in operation.

206. Plans are going ahead for the re-organization of land networks and it is hoped to complete the first phase of this project in the forthcoming year. 207. During the latter half of 1964, the presence and near-presence of many typhoons again proved the value of radio communications. Interruptions in services were of only a minor nature.
