142. During the year 13 cases involving 23 persons were referred to the Deportation and Detention Advisory Tribunal established under the Emergency (Deportation and Detention) Regulations 1962. At the end of the period there were 33 persons held in detention, and of the 23 referred to the Tribunal during the year under review 17 were placed in detention, 1 placed on Police Supervision, 3 discharged and 2 are still pending a decision in their case.

143. Four British subjects and 84 aliens were deported.

144. There were 371 new Police Supervision orders issued during the year, an increase of 2 compared with the previous year. This brings to 10,303 the total number of orders issued since the introduction of the system in 1956. Of the current total of 1,316 supervisees, 459 are serving prison sentences. The Police Supervision Section co-operated closely with various voluntary agencies interested in the welfare of discharged prisoners, and at the end of the year 29 supervisees were under the care of the Hong Kong Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society.

145. 2,606 investigations were made into the character and background of applicants for the Police Force. Over half of these investigations were carried out following the recruiting campaign in January 1965 and additional staff were brought in to assist with the increased work.

146. The Interpol Sub-Bureau participated in 60 investigations of an international nature.

Forensic Laboratory

147. A specialist in Forensic Pathology and three pathologists are seconded from the Medical and Health Department to the Police laboratory at Police Headquarters. These highly qualified and experienced officers using modern equipment and techniques proved of great assistance to police in the detection of crime.

148. During the year the staff of the Forensic Laboratory carried out examinations at the laboratory including 2,696 blood groupings, 2,030 various types of exhibits and 433 persons who were either victims or suspects in criminal cases. They also performed 1,786 post mortem examinations on the 3,808 bodies received at the Public Mortuaries.

149. Plans for a new laboratory to be included in the new Divisional Police station at Mong Kok in Kowloon were drawn

up during the year, and it is intended that one pathologist will work permanently in Kowloon to handle the increased amount of work coming from that district.
