CONDITIONS OF SERVICE FOR RANK AND FILE

Police officers recruited in the Colony are not on contract and can resign at any time by giving one month's notice.

After one year's satisfactory progress a recruit is advanced to Constable. There is no probationary period.

3. The normal daily period of duty is eight hours with a break for refreshment. There is one rest day in seven and 24 days leave a year. Personnel engaged on active duties (e.g. beat duties) are additionally granted four hours off duty each week to compensate for parades and training periods attended in their off-duty hours.

4. All ranks with over ten years service are eligible to receive a pension.

5. Free medical treatment is available for the officer and his family.

6. Free meals or rations are not normally provided.

All married members of the Rank and File are eligible for married quarters. The monthly rent is less than one-seventh of an officer's basic. salary. Bachelors are housed in free barrack accommodation.

All ranks are equipped with uniform free of charge.
