HEALTH, MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS

256. There are three medical posts and dental clinics for use by police officers and their families, at Central Police Station, Canton Road Married Quarters and Cheung Sha Wan Married Quarters.

257. The total annual attendance of police officers at the medical clinics was 12,375 as compared with 12,818 last year: of civilians 1,882 as compared with 1,795 and of dependants 55,196 as compared with 62,494. The dental clinics treated 5,723 patients.

258. The annual X-ray survey of the Force and civilian staff showed 52 cases of active tuberculosis as against 73 last year. 9,220 police per- sonnel were X-rayed. 876 members attended the Government chest clinic: tuberculosis was found quiescent in 172 cases and arrested in 167. 17 police officers were admitted to hospital for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

259. The Shing Mun Post was closed down at the end of the year. Previously officers had been posted to the post on light convalescent duty after hospital treatment for tuberculosis. The numbers of such officers do not now warrant maintaining this special establishment.

CHILD HEALTH SERVICES

260. The Maternal and Child Health Clinics for police children up to the age of five have been very well attended. Skimmed and full cream milk powder has been provided in needy cases.

261. At Arsenal Street, Hong Kong, 50 clinics were held and dealt with 5,047 cases. At Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, 50 clinics dealt with 3,871 cases. From both centres 39 families were referred to the Family Planning Association.

POLICE CO-OPERATIVES

262. A third Co-operative Store was opened at the new married quarters at Tin Kwong Road in August. The other two are at the quarters at Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan. These stores sell groceries and other provisions to married families living in the quarters at prices cheaper than in outside shops. Total business turnover for the year was: Arsenal Street $260,860; Cheung Sha Wan $631,500 and Tin Kwong Road $134,000 (8 months only). Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan distributed $9,735 and $16,099 respectively in dividends. The staff of the Govern-
