136. During the year a total of 20,113 narcotic offences were recorded and 14,655 persons prosecuted. Details of these are given at Appendices 15 to 16.

138. The Drug Disposal Unit destroyed 13,788 items compared with 9,687 last year. 1,829 lbs. of raw opium 121 lbs. of morphine and 187 lbs. of morphine hydrochloride (heroin) were passed to the Government Pharmacist.

COMMERCIAL CRIME OFFICE

139. A Superintendent of Police is in charge of this increasingly important branch of the C.I.D. which deals with the investigation of commercial frauds and kindred offences, usually requiring protracted research and inquiry.
