TECHNICAL COURSES

100. 106 members of the Force underwent driving courses during the year of whom 93 qualified as police drivers. 13 were still under training at the end of March, 1964.

101. Five Inspectors of the Marine Division attended the Navigation Course held at the Technical College, and qualified.

102. 18 NCOs, already holding the Coxswain's Certificate studied for and passed the Marine Department's Examination for the Pilotage Certificate. This brings the number of NCOs possessing this qualification to 80.

103. 59 Constables qualified as Coxswains, bringing the total of those so qualified in the Marine Division to 248.

104. 2 Inspectors obtained their Radar Observer's Certificates after attending a course and passing an examination at the Technical School.

TRAINING FOR GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

105. The Police Training School continues to give assistance to other Government Departments which employ disciplined staff with con- stabulary-type powers. 2 Sub-Inspectors of the Hawker Control Force completed a six months' training course. 14 District Watchmen also completed a course.

OVERSEAS COURSES

106. Four senior officers and fifteen junior officers attended courses of instruction in the United Kingdom. (Details are at Appendix 11).

THE POLICE TRAINING CONTINGENT-INTERNAL SECURITY TRAINING

107. The Police Training Contingent, which is the Force reserve on immediate call in times of emergency, undertakes the intensive training in internal security duties of junior officers, NCOs and constables.

108. At the beginning of the year the Internal Security Course con- sisted of:

(a) a three-week Cadre course attended by Inspectors and NCOs. (b) a twelve-week course during which Constables were trained by the Inspectors and the NCOs of the Cadre course under the guidance of the permanent staff.
