90. The School is commanded by a Senior Superintendent with a Superintendent as his deputy. The establishment of the School comprises 1 Chief Inspector, 8 Senior Inspectors, 38 Inspectors, 44 Non-Commis- sioned Officers and 9 Constables who are engaged on recruitment, in- struction and the administration of the School. In addition two specialist Police Training Officers are employed on contract to advise on training policy and courses, teaching techniques, examinations and instructional notes and manuals. One serves on the staff at Police Headquarters and the other is attached to the School,

91. A progressive programme of training is provided for junior officers and constables, details of which are shown at Appendix 11. In-service training starts with the six months initial training 'A' Course at the Police Training School where the recruit receives theoretical and practical instruction in all aspects of his duties and in drill and the hand- ling of weapons used in the Force. Once the recruit has left the School he attends regular continuation training classes and further refresher courses as shown in Appendix 12.
PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS
92. There are three regular professional examinations for junior officers. The Standard I Professional Examination for Probationary Inspectors set in law, Police duties and drill must be passed before these officers pass out from the Police Training School. The Standard II Professional Examination in the same subjects is taken before an officer is confirmed in his appointment. The Standard III Professional Examina- tion, again in the same subjects, is the final professional examination for junior officers. Examinations in Cantonese for overseas officers are held at progressive levels. (See para. 96 below).
93. Promotion from the rank of Inspector to Senior Inspector usually requires the candidate to have had at least seven years' service; to have passed the Standard III Professional Examination and to pass the special Senior Inspectors' promotion examination. Final selection depends on recommendations made to the Commissioner by a Board of which the Deputy Commissioner is Chairman and the Assistant Commissioners are members.
94. A revised syllabus has been worked out and published for a new examination to replace the special examination for promotion to
