238. The Force Welfare Officer holds a meeting each month with Staff Sergeants at which general welfare matters are discussed. Minutes of these meetings are sent to Police Headquarters.

POLICE SCHOOLS

239. A thirty-classroom police primary school is included in the new Tin Kwong Road Rank and File quarters in Kowloon. This school started classes on a limited scale on 4th March, 1963.

240. There are four other primary schools in which children of police officers have priority in allocation of places. These schools are located in the police quarters at Hollywood Road and Arsenal Street in Hong Kong, and at Canton Road and Cheung Sha Wan in Kowloon. They are administered and staffed by the Education Department. Any vacant places in the schools which are not required by children of police officers are made available for open allocation by the Education Department. At the end of the year 2,034 children of police officers were attending these five primary schools.

241. In February two evening classes were started, at Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan, providing courses of post-primary education. Classes are held three times a week and the courses extend over a period of three years. The classes are designed for children who have failed for a number of reasons to obtain a place in a secondary school. The subjects taught extend the children's education into the secondary field but no special certificates are issued. 84 children were attending these courses at the end of the year.

242. Twenty-four Police Welfare Scholarships were awarded during the year to children who had obtained the best results in the Joint Primary Examination. The total number of scholarships awarded at the end of the year was 71.

243. Two Police Boy Scout Troops have been formed; the Kowloon Troop on 6th January and the Hong Kong Troop on 10th January. The Kowloon Troop has 43 boys undergoing training with 60 on the waiting list. The Hong Kong Troop consists of 35 boys with 50 waiting to join.

HEALTH, MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS

244. There are three medical posts and dental clinics for use by police officers and their families, at Central Police Station, Canton Road Married Quarters and Cheung Sha Wan Married Quarters.
