133. The Drug Disposal Unit destroyed 9,687 items compared with 9,358 last year. 366 lbs. of raw opium and 115 lbs. of morphine were passed to the Government Pharmacist.

COMMERCIAL CRIME OFFICE

134. A Superintendent of Police is in charge of this office which investigates commercial frauds and kindred offences. Cases dealt with, showing comparisons with the previous year's figures, were as follows:

TRIAD SOCIETY BUREAU

135. Continued action against Triad Societies has contained them as fragmented criminal groups lacking any form of central control or influence outside their own limited sphere of operation. Their activities are mainly high-interest money-lending, ticket-scalping', exploitation of prostitutes and the operation of illegal massage-houses, obscene film shows and some of the smaller 'dance studios'.

136. There were 233 prosecutions for triad membership offences.

GENERAL INVESTIGATION SECTION

137. This section has dealt with 304 cases, mainly concerned with passport fraud, immigration irregularities and contraventions of the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance.

138. The reduction in its work-561 enquiries were made in the previous year was caused by the temporary transfer of 17 officers
