105. The Courses, which last three months, are normally attended by junior officers in their second year of service, N.C.O.'s on promotion, and constables in their third year of service.

106. Company Commanders courses are held for newly promoted senior officers and special selection courses for promotion from the rank and file to the junior officer are also provided.

107. 8 senior officers, 46 junior officers, 204 N.C.O.'s and 619 con- stables attended internal security courses and two special promotion selection courses were held.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDY

108. Although the study of English is not compulsory, other ranks are encouraged to attend voluntary classes which are provided under the supervision of the Education Department. There are five stages, and bonuses are paid to those who qualify in stage Three and above. Special classes in advanced English, which is a pre-requisite for promotion to junior officer status are also provided. 154 officers passed the stage Five examination and 68 officers attended the Advanced English Courses.
