This should be completed in two years. The final phase, expected to be finished in 1967, will complete the new school by the addition of staff quarters, an administration block and Women Police quarters.
94. The School is commanded by a Senior Superintendent with an Assistant Superintendent as his deputy. The establishment of the school comprises one Chief Inspector, 7 Senior Inspectors, 38 Inspectors, 14 non-commissioned officers and 9 constables who are engaged on recruit- ment, instruction and the administration of the School. In addition two specialist Police Training Officers are employed on contract to advise on training policy and courses, teaching techniques, examinations and in- structional notes and manuals. One serves on the staff at Police Head- quarters and the other is attached to the School.
95. During the year 250 male and 30 women recruit constables. completed their training at the School. Of these, 61 male and 6 women candidates were recruited during the previous year. There were 383 male and 53 women recruit constables undergoing training at the end of the
year.
TRAINING IN POLICE DUTIES
96. A progressive programme of training is provided for junior officers and constables, details of which are shown at Appendix 11. In-service training starts with the six months initial training 'A' Course at the Police Training School where the recruit receives theoretical and practical instruction in all aspects of his duties and in drill and the handling of weapons used in the Force. Once the recruit has left the School he attends regular continuation training classes and further re- fresher courses as shown in Appendix 12.
PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS
97. There are three regular professional examinations for junior officers. The Standard I Professional Examination for probationary in- spectors set in law, Police duties and drill must be passed before these officers pass out from the Police Training School. The Standard II Professional Examination in the same subjects is taken before an officer is confirmed in his appointment. The Standard III Professional Examination, again in the same subjects, is the final professional examination for junior officers. Examinations in Cantonese for overseas officers are held at progressive levels concurrently with these professional examinations.
