The Maternal and Child Health Service for police children up to the age of five continued to function well. Milk powder and vitamins are provided for those needing them.

POLICE CO-OPERATIVES

199. There are two police Co-operative Societies, one at Arsenal Street Quarters and the other at Cheung Sha Wan Quarters. These Societies were formed with the object of providing cheaper consumer goods to Rank and File married families. They operate on a profit sharing basis and retail goods at prices slightly higher than wholesale cost. Any profits remaining after running costs have been met are returned to members in the form of annual dividends. Both Societies report an increase in dividends.

ENTERTAINMENT

200. The family launch picnics usually held at the beginning of summer were cancelled because of the outbreak of cholera. For the same reason also the Swimming Gala did not take place. Two Rank and File dances were held and were well supported by police officers and their families.

SPORT

201. The 1st XI Football team succeeded, for the first time in 27 years, in reaching the final of the Colony Senior Shield. The Third Division team is at the top of the league table.

202. The table tennis team won the Government Inter-Departmental Table Tennis Competition for the fifth successive year.

203. The police swimming team won the championship title in events sponsored by the Urban Services and the Fire Services Depart- ments. Twenty policemen took part in the Colony Cross-Harbour Race and the police team was placed third in this event.

204. The Police Force Annual Sports Meeting and the race for the Dowman trophy were held as usual and provided enjoyment for members of the Force and their families.

THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION

This Association is the principal organization for the promotion of sports within the Police Force. Membership is open to all regular
