medical expenses, house repairs, furniture, schooling, and the purchase of clothing and sewing machines. In addition to welfare benefits centrally distributed, each Division and Branch has an allocation from the Fund, and runs its own entertainment and recreational programmes. The accounts of the Fund are at Appendix IX.
POLICE SCHOOLS
192. There are four primary schools. One is attached to each of the blocks of Rank and File quarters at Hollywood Road, Arsenal Street, Canton Road and Cheung Sha Wan. These schools provide primary education for a total of 2,866 children by teachers provided by the Education Department. 19 Police Welfare Scholarships (3 more than last year) were granted to children of policemen during the year to enable them to study at a Government Middle School for five years and to provide school books and medical attention during this period.
HEALTH, MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS
193. The attendance of police officers at the Hong Kong and Kowloon Medical Posts was 13,939 as compared with 11,925 last year. The attendance of civilian staff decreased slightly from 1,731 to 1,685. Attendance by Police families decreased from 76,716 to 66,974. The dental clinics dealt with a total of 13,813 cases.
194. The two Medical Posts carried out 21,568 dressings, 2,061 vaccinations, 253 Anti-Polio vaccinations and 17,438 inoculations.
195. The annual X-ray survey of the Force and civilian staff showed 45 cases of active tuberculosis as against 51 in 1960-61. 8,386 Police personnel were X-rayed during the year. 728 members attended the Government Chest Clinic: tuberculosis was found quiescent in 216 cases and arrested in 141.
196. 20 Police officers were admitted to Hospital for treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.
POLICE CONVALESCENT CENTRE-SHING MUN POST
197. Rank and File tuberculosis patients discharged from hospital, as fit for light duty, continued to be housed at Shing Mun Post for the periods recommended. These patients perform appropriate duties under supervision of medical and police officers until they have fully recovered.
