68. Collections by Police in respect of subheads shared with other Government Departments amounted to $1,531,185.
POLICE SAVINGS SCHEME
69. On 31st December 1961 the Police Savings Scheme had been working for one year. 1,469 members of the Rank and File were then participating in the scheme and savings amounted to $173,770 on which interest of $2,963.75 was paid and credited to depositors' accounts. The main object of the scheme is to enable officers to save up for their retirement.
PROMOTIONS AND ADVANCEMENTS
70. During the year four officers were promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendent, and two officers from other Forces were appointed to that rank. Eight officers were advanced to the rank of Superintendent, nine officers were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent, and sixteen officers were appointed Senior Inspectors, all from within the Force.
HONOURS AND AWARDS
71. In addition to the awards of the Colonial Police Medal for Meritorious Service noted at paragraph 11, nine Colonial Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medals, 17 First Clasps and 4 Second Clasps were awarded.
72. Twelve members of the Force were commended by His Excellency the Governor and 32 by the Commissioner of Police.
73. Rewards paid for meritorious services by members of the public amounted to $1,189.05. Police personnel received $23,607 as rewards for outstanding performance of duty.
