58. Gazetted Officers are mainly housed in non-departmental quarters, but there are 20 departmental quarters available for holders of certain duty posts. 295 departmental quarters were available for 391 married Junior Officers. Priority in the allocation of married quarters for Junior Officers is given to overseas officers.
59. Of the 206 local Junior Officers who are married, 115 are housed in departmental quarters.
60. No new married quarters for the Rank and File were completed during the year and the number of quarters available was 2,090 for 4,218 married Rank and File. This situation will improve considerably next year when a new block of married quarters at Tin Kwong Road is completed. This will provide accommodation for 700 families. Further details of accommodation are given at Appendix IV.
61. During the year the only new police building completed was the Shek Kip Mei Sub-divisional Police Station. It came into operation on 17th August 1961. This building is designed to house 3 married and 8 single Junior Officers and has barrack accommodation for 125 Rank and File. The station is well designed with an excellent Report Room. The offices are air conditioned.
62. Government has approved in principle a programme which will eventually provide 407 married, and 299 single quarters for Junior Officers. The implementation of this programme which is subject to the approval of funds by Finance Committee, will be spread over a number of years.
