37. The Force consists of three territorial districts and a number of specialist branches. The districts are Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories and Marine. An Assistant Commissioner is in charge of each district with a Senior Superintendent as second-in-command. Colony Headquarters, the Criminal Investigation Department and the Special Branch are also commanded by Assistant Commissioners, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Headquarters being the Chief Staff Officer to the Commissioner. The remaining branches which are, Traffic, Communications and Transport, Anti-Corruption, the Police Training School and the Police Training Contingent, are each commanded by a Senior Superintendent of Police. HEADQUARTERS
38. Colony Headquarters contains those sections responsible for the general running and administration of the Force. A number of Staff Officers, ranging in rank from Senior Superintendent of Police to Inspector, are responsible to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Headquarters, for Force administration, planning, personnel, finance, stores, welfare, training, communications and transport, and licensing. Police Officers at Headquarters, and throughout the Force generally, are assisted by civilian staff under the general control of an Administrative Secretary, who is an Administrative Officer with the status of an Assistant Commissioner.
TERRITORIES DISTRICTS AND THE UNIFORMED BRANCH
39. The main body of the Force is the Uniformed Branch. In its role of maintaining Law and Order all other Branches support it. All Police Officers start their careers in this Branch to obtain experience of basic police work. Specialised Branches draw their manpower from the Uniformed Branch. The main task of the Uniformed Branch is to maintain watch and ward in the three territorial districts of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories and Marine. Each of these districts is divided into a number of divisions, which in turn are split into sub-divisions. Divisions are under the control of Superintendents or Assistant Superintendents, whilst sub-divisions and posts are in the charge of Inspectors or senior N.C.Os.
