MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS
228. Two Medical Posts and two Dental Clinics are available to members of the Force and their families. The former attended to 42,947 and the latter to 4,706 cases during the year.
POLICE CONVALESCENT CENTRE
229. The Police Post at Shing Mun, which is favourably located as a convalescent centre, continued to provide 'light duty' employment for 15 members of the rank and file who are recovering from tuberculosis. As a supplement to the daily diet of these convalescents, powdered cream milk is provided from the Welfare Fund.
CHILDREN'S HEALTH
230. An important contribution to the health of Police families, the Maternity and Child Health Service, was well attended. Milk powder and vitamins are supplied to needy cases.
CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
231. Towards the end of the year a Co-operative Society was inaugurated to provide cheaper consumer goods to rank and file families occupying the block of married quarters at Arsenal Street. The Society, which operates on a profit-sharing basis, retails goods at prices slightly exceeding wholesale cost. Any profits remaining after running costs have been met are returned to members in the form of annual dividends. Members of this Society numbered 104 at the end of the year.
WELFARE COMMITTEE
232. The Welfare section maintains close contact with the rank and file of the Force by means of monthly meetings of the Social Services Officer with Staff-Sergeants representing Divisions and Branches. These meetings are devoted to the detailed discussion of welfare problems.
ENTERTAINMENT
233. A number of launch picnics were organized during the summer of 1959 and were enjoyed by the families of the rank and file.
HONG KONG POLICE SPORTS ASSOCIATION
234. Open to all members of the Force, Civilian Staff, Auxiliaries and Police pensioners, the Sports Association has ample facilities to
