MONTHLY VARIATIONS
94. Although crimes of all types occur throughout the year, certain seasonal patterns emerge when crime figures are arranged by months. Taken over a period of five years, serious assaults and indecent assaults tend to occur more frequently during the summer months as also do snatching cases; pickpocket offences, however, are more numerous during the winter. Offences against property are generally more numerous during the winter months, especially immediately prior to the Chinese New Year, which fell this year in January; a notable exception to this is in Larceny from Dwelling cases, open doors and windows. during the hot summer precluding the necessity of breaking. A further variation is apparent from the pillar graphs; during the drive against triads prior to the October celebrations, crime decreases considerably.
