HOUSING AND BUILDINGS
48. There are twenty two departmental quarters available for an establishment of eighty six Gazetted Officers. Non-departmental quarters may be applied for by Gazetted Officers not accommodated in depart- mental quarters. These latter quarters are allocated on a 'points' system to Overseas Government Servants generally. There are 232 departmental quarters for Inspectors of whom 360 are married. Overseas Inspectors are given priority in the allocation of quarters and those married local Inspectors not housed by Government are required to find their own accommodation.
49. At the end of the year there was a total of 4,086 married Rank and File officers in the Force and there were 1,283 married quarters for allocation to them. As quarters become available they are allocated on a 'points' system based on salary, service and number of children. Barrack accommodation continues to be over-crowded. This situation will be relieved when new stations under construction and being planned are completed. The position in regard to both single and married officers is outlined briefly at Appendix III.
50. New buildings completed during the year were Shek Pik and Tates Cairn Police posts. The post at Shek Pik on Lantao Island provides accommodation for one Inspector and 12 Rank and File in barracks. Tates Cairn Police post provides barrack accommodation for 15 Rank and File.
51. In addition to the major project to provide 826 rank and file married quarters at Cheung Sha Wan which should be completed in September 1960, planning proceeded for a total of 2,300 Police married quarters at the following sites:

Wong Tai Sin
