IMMIGRATION BONDS

222. During the year sponsors of immigrants put up 2,868 cash bonds of which 2,813 were returned when conditions had been fulfilled. The number of cancelled bonds amounted to 133. A total of 984 were still in operation at the end of the year.

Revenue collected during the period under review in com- parison with the preceding two years was as follows:

IMMIGRATION BOARDING OFFICE

224. This section is now staffed by eighteen Inspectors and six N.C.O.S. Their duties involve meeting all vessels and aircraft entering the Colony. Immigration Control teams work at the anchorages at Stonecutters and Kowloon Bay, at Kai Tak Airport and at the Frontier at Lo Wu; also at the Macau ferry wharves. During the year 5,588 vessels and 6,234 aircraft were cleared, also 21,406 native craft.

PROSECUTIONS

225. During the year a total of twenty persons were dealt with for offences under the Immigration Control Ordinance, Cap. 243, and the new Immigration (Control and Offences) Ordinance.

ARMS LICENCING

226. The Commissioner is the licensing authority under the Arms and Ammunition Ordinance. At the end of the year there were 1,462 licensed firearms in the Colony.

227. A total of 75 arms and 15,629 rounds of ammunition were confiscated by the Courts during the year. These included 14 rifles, 15 revolvers and 19 pistols.

SOCIETIES

228. The Commissioner is the Registrar of Societies under the Societies Ordinance. During the year one hundred and nineteen new societies were registered and two societies were granted exemption. One society changed its status by forming a company, twenty two
