206. The Force did extremely well in competitive shooting at the local Annual Bisley when, in addition to winning the Services and Colony Pistol Competitions, individual members of the Force were placed 2nd and 4th in 'The Governor's Twenty'.
207. Football is still the most popular sport and the Force fields two representative sides in Colony football; in addition, inter-divisional league and knock-out tournament trophies are competed for annually.
208. Although the weather was bad and discouraged spectators, the Police Athletic Sports were held on Wednesday, 21st February, 1959. The meeting is regarded as a Police Force family outing as well as a competition between the athletes participating. On this occasion approximately 7,500 persons attended, all of whom were members and ex-members of the Force with their families.
THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION
209. This association is the principal organization for the promotion of sports within the Police Force and has a well-equipped Club House and splendid grounds for football and other sports. Income is derived from monthly subscriptions and football-gate receipts. All members of the Force, including the Auxiliaries, are eligible for membership.
POLICE RECREATION CLUB
210. The social aspect of this Club-Membership of which is open to all of the rank of sub-inspector or above-is well developed.
ADULT EDUCATION
211. Adult education courses commenced during November 1958. Representatives from over two hundred police families were present at the opening ceremony held at the police school in Arsenal Street. The courses are of ten months' duration and four hours of instruction are given weekly. They are based on 'Practical Background Educational Courses' conducted by the Education Department and subjects taught include sewing, knitting and home craft.
