EMERGENCY UNIT

186. There is an Emergency Unit attached to the headquarters of each of the three Districts which provides an immediately available reserve of manpower. These units also provide the crews for radio patrol cars and perform many and varied duties as circumstances require.

THE WOMEN POLICE

187. Women Police are permanently employed in the Magistrates' Courts, Special Branch and C.I.D. in addition to performing routine duties in divisions. For the first time it has proved possible to station a section of Women Police in the New Territories.

THE AUXILIARY POLICE

188.

The Special Constabulary and Police Reserve which were administratively combined in September 1957 were legally amalgamated with the promulgation of the Auxiliary Police Force Ordinance on 30th January, 1959. The total strength at the end of the year was 1,858 all ranks.

189. The training of the Auxiliaries was continuous and comprehen- sive instruction was given. One 24-hour period and two 16-hour periods of mobilization during internal security exercises were performed and 1,496 members attended eleven day courses of training held at the
