quarters may be applied for by Gazetted Officers not accommodated in departmental quarters. These latter quarters are allocated on a 'points' system to Overseas Government Servants generally. There were 218 departmental quarters for Inspectors of whom 333 are mar- ried. Overseas Inspectors are given priority in the allocation of quarters and those married local Inspectors not housed by Government are required to find their own accommodation.

45. At the end of the year there was a total of 3,998 married Rank and File officers in the Force and there were 1,286 married quarters for allocation to them. As quarters become available they are allocated on a 'points' system based on salary, service and number of children. Barrack accommodation in pre-war buildings continues to be over- crowded. The position in regard to both single and married officers is outlined briefly at Appendix III.

46. New buildings completed during the year were Tsuen Wan Divisional Headquarters and Station, and Mui Wo Police Station.

47. The Headquarters at Tsuen Wan, in addition to the usual offices, provides accommodation for 170 Rank and File in barracks and for four married and three single Inspectors. Mui Wo Police Station provides quarters for one married and one single Inspector, together with barrack accommodation for twenty seven Rank and File.

48. Planning for a block of 826 married Rank and File quarters in Kowloon progressed during the year and working drawings were completed. Construction commenced shortly before the end of the year. 49. For Inspectors, working drawings for a block of sixty married quarters are now being prepared.
