THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT
31. The C.I.D. is generally responsible for the prevention, detection and prosecution of crime. A description of its organization is contained in Part IV of this report.
THE SPECIAL BRANCH
32. The Director of the Special Branch is assisted by a Senior Superintendent of Police and the various sections which cover the different segments of its activities are in the charge of gazetted officers. The Branch is responsible for the prevention and detection of sub- versive activities and for supplying the intelligence necessary for the maintenance of internal security.
THE TRAFFIC BRANCH
33. The responsibility of this Branch includes all forms of road traffic control, prosecution of traffic offenders, accident investigations, motor vehicle examinations, driving test examinations, registration and licensing of vehicles and road safety measures. The Branch is com- manded by a Senior Superintendent of Police and is divided into a headquarters and two sections, one in Hong Kong and the other cover- ing Kowloon and New Territories, each under a gazetted officer.
THE COMMUNICATIONS AND TRANSPORT BRANCH
34. The Branch is responsible for all lines of communication maintained within the Police Force, for the large fleet of Police motor vehicles, for the training of W/T and R/T operators and the Police Driving School.
THE ANTI-CORRUPTION AND NARCOTICS BUREAUX
35. This Branch is the central organization for the prevention and detection of corrupt practices in the Colony. One section of the Branch is responsible for the control of narcotics.
THE IMMIGRATION OFFICE
36. The Branch responsibilities include immigration control, issue of British and local travel documents, registration of aliens and the grant of Hong Kong visas.
