REPRESENTATIVE BODIES
179. Both the overseas and local inspectors have their own repre- sentative bodies which are registered as Associations.
WELFARE COMMITTEES
180. The Staff Officer Welfare presides at two monthly committee meetings. The first, attended by the Staff Sergeants of all formations, deals with welfare matters when the views of the Rank and File con- cerning such matters as schooling, quarters, family needs, health and kindred subjects are put forward. The second is a committee appointed to supervise the messing of the Force, which is at present undertaken by private contractors.
SPORT
181. Football is the major sport of the Force. In addition to fielding two representative sides in Colony football, fourteen teams took part in a police divisional league and twenty three teams in a knock-out tournament. Three members of the Force were chosen to represent the Colony.
182. Rugby, cricket and bowls were well supported and though no outstanding success was met with, this did not detract from the enjoy- ment of the players who showed keenness and good sportsmanship.
183. Table tennis continued in popularity and a police team won the Inter-Departmental competition for the fourth year in succession. A woman police constable was chosen as a Colony representative on three occasions. Basket ball players had a good year with a police inter-divisional league and several representative sides in Colony competitions. Boxing was resuscitated after a lapse of several years, and members of the Force have already shown that this is a sport in which they can distinguish themselves, given the opportunity.
184. The Force did well in competitive shooting and at the Annual Bisley won the two team pistol prizes, the Colony Individual Pistol Championship, the Services Rifle Individual Championship and three other 1st and 2nd prizes. In 'The Governor's Twenty' the Force took 4th, 8th and 13th places.
185. The highlight of the year was once again the Annual Athletic Meeting, held at the police ground at Boundary Street and attended by over 10,000 members of the Force, their wives and families. There were 1,325 individual entries. The Annual Dowman Road Race of 41 miles attracted 151 competitors and was keenly contested.
