for children of police officers, assistance to dependants of deceased officers and for the improvement of comforts in stations and posts. Each Division and Branch has its own monthly allocation of money from which local programmes for entertainment and recreation are financed.

THE SPORTS ASSOCIATION

174.

The Association has a well equipped club house, games room and sports ground and is the home of Force representative sport. Membership is open to all Regular Officers, Auxiliaries, civilian staff and police pensioners. The affairs of the Association are conducted by a committee, elected by the members.

THE POLICE RECREATION CLUB

175. Membership of the Police Recreation Club is open to all members of the Force and Auxiliaries and police pensioners of the rank of Sub-Inspector or above.

POLICE SCHOOLS

176. Three schools provide for the primary education of 1,450 children of the Rank and File, but more places are required and a great need is now being felt for education at the secondary or middle school level, as indeed is the case generally in the Colony.

POLICE MEDICAL POSTS

177. There are Medical Posts in Hong Kong and Kowloon, each in charge of a Medical Officer. The Doctors and their staffs gave sterling service, treating 97,656 cases. During one short period when influenza was prevalent 5,000 patients were treated in a few days, the staff displaying great devotion to duty. During the year two Dental Clinics were provided which will undoubtedly give service of comparable value.

POLICE CONVALESCENT CENTRE

178. Shing Mun Post continued to be used as a convalescent centre for tuberculosis patients discharged from hospital and considered fit for light duty. There they perform appropriate duties under careful supervi- sion by Medical and police officers until fully recovered. Whilst convalescing they are supplied with extra milk powder and their diet is supplemented by the Welfare Fund.
