The Women Police provide twenty Sergeants employed to operate the police telephone exchange.
THE DOG UNIT
62. This unit, which is commanded by an Inspector, was further expanded during the year to a strength of thirty dogs and handlers. Its headquarters are in the New Territories where most of the dogs are employed, but small detachments have also been posted to Kowloon City, Peak, Aberdeen and Stanley Police Stations for duty in those
areas.
63. During the year police dogs achieved considerable success in the location of illegal immigrants in the frontier area and in the prevention of crime generally. The Inspector in charge of the unit attended an extensive course of instruction at the Army Guard Dog Training Centre, the staff of which has given great assistance since the formation of the Dog Unit.
THE BAND
64. Both the military and pipe bands had a full programme during the year, in the course of which they provided entertainment both for the public and the Force. The following engagements were fulfilled by the Band during the year:
(a) Concerts in public places
(b) Concerts at police establishments (c) Beating the Retreat in public
(d) Official parades or inspections

THE AUXILIARY POLICE FORCE
65. The two establishments of the Special Constabulary and Police Reserve were amalgamated on an administrative basis in September to form a single body known as the Auxiliary Police Force. This amal- gamation was effected to enable more efficient integration with the Regular Force as occasion may require. The total strength at the end of the year was 1,824 all ranks.
66. The training of the Auxiliaries was continuous and comprehen- sive instruction was given. They performed three 24 hour periods of mobilization with the Regular Force for exercise in the internal security organization and 1,404 members attended 11 day courses of training at the Police Training School.
