Trust Companies

93. No trust company was registered under Part VIII of the Trustee Ordinance so that the number of trust companies on the register re- mained at three.

Money-lenders

94. 46 money-lenders were registered under the Money-lenders Ordinance, six more than in 1969-70. The fee for such registration is $500 per annum. The exemptions from registration granted to The Hong Kong Building and Loan Agency Limited and the Commonwealth Development Finance Company Limited were still effective. The exemp- tion granted to the Malayan Finance Corporation (now known as The Malayan Finance Corporation Berhad) was renewed during the year for a further term of two years.

Chinese Partnerships Ordinance

95. There are 22 partnerships on the Register, only one of which has been registered since the war (in 1959–60). The other 21 were registered before 1935, and appear to be no longer in existence.

Limited Partnerships Ordinance

96. This Ordinance, which applies only to such partnerships as in the opinion of the Registrar of Companies can properly be described as non-Chinese partnerships (Chinese partnerships being registrable under the Chinese Partnerships Ordinance see the preceding paragraph), enables partnerships to be registered between one or more general part- ners liable for all the debts of the firm and one or more limited partners liable only up to the amount contributed by them to the partnership. Two such partnerships were registered during the year, raising the total number registered to 28, of which only 13 are believed to be still in existence.

Registered Trustees Incorporation Ordinance

97. Under this Ordinance the duly appointed trustees (not being less than three nor more than seven) of any body of persons as defined in the Ordinance or of any charity may apply for incorporation; and the Governor may, if he considers such incorporation expedient, grant a certificate of incorporation, whereupon the trustees and their successors in office become a body corporate with perpetual succession.
