PART X

NEW LEGISLATION

Establishment

185. The Registrar General (Establishment) Ordinance was repealed and re-enacted with certain modifications by the Registrar General (Establishment) Ordinance 1969. The modifications included changes in the styles of legal officers below the rank of Assistant Registrar General from Senior Legal Assistant, Legal Assistant and Legal Assistant (Pupil) to Senior Solicitor, Solicitor and Assistant Solicitor respectively.

Land

186. The Landlord and Tenant (Amendment) Ordinance 1968 added a new section to the principal Ordinance to enable a tenant to enter into an agreement with his landlord whereby the tenant may, subject to certain conditions designed to safeguard the tenant from being unduly influenced by his landlord, lawfully receive compensation from his landlord in return for surrendering or terminating his protected tenancy.

187. The Registered Trustees (Amendment) (No. 2) Ordinance 1968 deleted words in section 4 of the principal Ordinance that required the Governor, when considering whether to grant a certificate of incorpora- tion to trustees of a body of persons or to trustees of a charity, to have regard to the public interest. This requirement had in some instances proved to be an impediment to the simple method of incorporation intended by the principal Ordinance.

188. A resolution of the Legislative Council passed on 20th Novem- ber 1968 approved the Registered Trustees Incorporation Ordinance (Amendment of Second Schedule) Order 1968, whereby the fee payable upon the issue of a certificate of incorporation under the Registered Trustees Incorporation Ordinance was increased from $100 to $200.

189. The Stamp (Amendment) Ordinance 1968 by section 4 added a new paragraph to section 6(1) of the principal Ordinance to remove doubt as to whether certain conveyances of land attracted duty twice; and by section 19 exempted from duty certain classes of document to which the Crown is a party, made provision that no duty shall be payable by the Government of Hong Kong or of the United Kingdom or by certain other exempted persons in respect of leases or agreements
