domiciled in the United Kingdom, 50 in Hong Kong, and 33 in the United States. 51 companies transact life business, 144 fire, 133 marine, and 92 motor vehicle third party risks business. The 207 companies include 12 which commenced doing these classes of business during the year. Most of the foreign companies operate through agents, but some have established their own branch offices in the Colony.
Deposits by Fire, Marine and Life Insurance Companies
87. The deposits made by 53 insurance companies with the Registrar of Companies under the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies Deposit Ordinance were valued as at 31st March 1969 at $7,913,819 and those made by 33 companies under the Life Insurance Companies Ordinance at $5,515,239.
Trust Companies
88. No trust company was registered under Part VIII of the Trustee Ordinance so that the number of trust companies on the register remained at three.
Money-lenders
89. 35 money-lenders were registered under the Money-lenders Ordinance, 4 less than in 1967-68. The fee for such registration is $500 per annum. One renewal order of exemption from registration for ten years was made by the Governor in Council under Section 6(d) of the Ordinance, namely in respect of The Hong Kong Building and Loan Agency Limited. The exemptions granted to the Commonwealth Devel- opment Finance Company Limited, the Malayan Finance Corporation Limited and the Hong Kong & Kowloon Kaifong Associations Interest Free Loan Corporation Limited were still effective.
Chinese Partnerships Ordinance
90. There are 22 partnerships on the Register, only one of which has been registered since the war (in 1959-60). The other 21 were registered before 1935, and appear to be no longer in existence.
Limited Partnerships Ordinance
91. This Ordinance, which applies only to such partnerships as in the opinion of the Registrar of Companies can properly be described as non-Chinese partnerships (Chinese partnerships being registrable under the Chinese Partnerships Ordinance—see the preceding paragraph),
