66. The Crown rents of 110 sections of lots were determined under the Crown Rents (Apportionment) Ordinance. Applications under this Ordinance may be made either by the owner of the Remaining Portion of a lot, in which case the rents of all the sections are determined, or by a section owner, in which case the rent of his section only is determined, the rent of the remainder of the lot being reduced corre- spondingly. Upon determination of the rent of a section the owner is deemed to hold the section as if a separate Crown lease for it had been granted to him at the determined rent.

67. Owing to the decrease in the number of instruments registered there was a considerable drop in the total Land Office fees ocllected. The year's total of $1,227,603, being $196,900 less than last year, was made up as follows:

Companies Registration

68. The Companies Ordinance is based on the Companies Act 1929 formerly in force in Great Britain but now replaced by the Companies Act 1948. Part I of Table XI lists the various Ordinances and sub- sidiary legislation now in force in the Colony relating to Companies. During the year the Governor delegated the Registrar General and Assistant Registrar General to exercise or perform on his behalf certain powers conferred upon him by the Companies Ordinance, including the granting of licence to limited companies to be incorporated without the addition of the word 'Limited' to their name.

69. The number of new companies incorporated in Hong Kong dropped by 213 from the previous year's record of 1,428 to 1,215, the lowest figure since 1962-63. Of the new companies incorporated, 1,150
