Rank Xerox 914 Copier was installed in December, 1964 to supplement the Department's copying equipment and to meet the increasing demand for copy documents etc. During the year 2,816 photostat, 7,734 Verifax and 4,934 Xerox copies of documents etc., were made. Most of the copies were made for the use of the Department and other Government Departments, but fees were collected in respect of copies of public records supplied to the public. These fees are included in the figures for the fees of the branches supplying the copies.
180. The Department has before it a large microfilming programme including the microfilming of all the memorials totalling 480,812 registered in the Land Office since 1844. This is a project which was first launched in 1963 with the ordering of a full range of equipment and material based on the recommendations of the Organizational Surveys Unit. Major items of equipment delivered in April 1964 included two Micro-file cameras Model AH5, eight Recordak Archival Readers, and three Recordak Viewprint Processors Model 35, one of which was damaged beyond repair during shipment. Difficulty was encountered in recruiting photographers, but with the appointment of two in March 1965 experi- ments were at last begun with the equipment to determine the most suitable methods of using it.
Social and Welfare
181. The Department has a Charitable and Benevolent Fund sup- ported by voluntary contributions from members of the staff of the rank of Class I clerk and above. No levy has been made since 1962–63, but there was miscellaneous income producing $127.75, part of which was applied in a grant to the Department's football team and part towards the cost of the annual Christmas Eve party. Interest free loans were made to two messengers, and at the end of the year the amount of the fund was $836.35.
182. Following upon the havoc wrought by typhoons Ruby, Sally and Dot a special collection was made among the staff resulting in a donation of $650 to the Community Relief Trust Fund.
183. The Departmental Football Team participated in the first Governor's Cup Tournament, a seven-a-side miniature football tourna- ment sponsored by the Hong Kong Chinese Civil Servants' Association. Although the team did not finish high in the standings list, the members had some very enjoyable games.
