In addition, a company incorporated in 1931 found to be the same body as a trade union registered in 1949 was removed from the Register under Section 67 of the Trade Union Registration Ordinance 1961. This was the first case of such a removal. Table XI gives an analysis according to the nature of business of the 136 companies dissolved or removed from the register during the year and also of the aggregate total of 434 for the four years ended 31st March 1965. The main casualties were as usual in import and export companies which lost 41. Textile companies lost 11, shipping, shipbuilding and shipbreaking companies 10 and land and building companies 9.

74. With 1,420 new companies, 135 dissolutions and one removal, there was a net increase of 1,284 in the number of companies on the register, which on 31st March 1965 stood at 8,638, comprising 614 public companies and 8,024 private companies.

Notwithstanding these reminders fifty companies failed to file documents, and in consequence fifty prosecutions were instituted. Fines ranging from $50 to $6,750 were imposed on twenty-three of the companies concerned or their directors. On the incorporation of every new company the Companies Registry supplies it with a pamphlet entitled 'Notes on certain provisions of the Companies Ordinance with special reference to documents which have to be filed in the Companies Registry'. A copy is also supplied free of charge to any company that asks for one.
