151. The Companies (Prevention of Evasion of the Societies Ordin- ance) Ordinance, 1959, was extended for a further year by a resolution of the Legislative Council passed on 19th December 1962.

Marriages

152. The Marriage Ordinance (Amendment of Second Schedule) Order, 1963, substituted a new Table of Fees as described in para- graph 100.

Births Registration

153. The Births and Deaths Registration (Amendment of First Schedule) Regulations, 1962, added the Yuen Long District Birth Registry to the Schedule of Birth Register Offices and deleted the San Tin, Pat Heung, Kam Tin, Shap Pat Heung, Ping Shan, Ha Tsuen, and Tuen Mun Rural Committee Offices consequent upon the centrali- zation of births registration in the Yuen Long District at the new Yuen Long Registry.

MISCELLANEOUS

154. The Department was honoured on 16th August 1962 by a visit from His Excellency the Governor, Sir Robert BLACK, G.C.M.G., O.B.E., who inspected all branches of the Department in the Central Government Offices (West Wing), the General Register Office at Li Po Chun Chambers, and the principal Marriage Registry at the City Hall. In the course of his visit His Excellency besides meeting all legal officers and the Assistant Registrars in charge of the branches inspected, was introduced to officers of all grades, and such was the interest taken by him in all aspects of the Department's work that his visit outran the two hours programme by over an hour. His Excellency showed special interest in the modern methods now being adopted to cope with the great volume of work in all branches.

155. Mr. Ajit Das GUPTA, Regional Demographic Adviser of the United Nations Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East, who was on a visit to Hong Kong to explore the present status of population data and the prospects of developing demographic studies for planning and other governmental purposes, called on 7th April 1962 and dis- cussed these subjects with the Registrar General and the Assistant Registrar in charge of the Births and Deaths Registry.
