Companies incorporated outside the Colony

40. Forty six companies incorporated outside the Colony established a place of business within the Colony and complied with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance. At the end of the year there were 449 such companies registered as compared with 429 the year before. Table XI shows the countries in which these 449 companies are incorporated. The United States leads with 107 companies, and is followed by the United Kingdom with 71, Japan 51, Singapore 32, China 28, and Panama 28. Table XII is a new table giving an analysis of the 449 companies to which this paragraph refers according to the nature of their business. This shows that the total includes inter alia 109 import and export companies, 72 insurance companies, 38 banks, 35 shipping and shipbuilding companies, and 25 religious bodies.

42. One new Trust Company was registered under Part VIII of the Trustee Ordinance (Cap. 29) bringing number of Trust Companies on the register to two.

Money-Lenders

43. Eighteen money-lenders licences were issued under the Money- Lenders Ordinance (Cap. 163), five more than in 1960-61. The fee for such a licence is $500 per annum.

Deposits by Fire, Marine and Life Insurance Companies

44. The deposits made by insurance companies with the Registrar of Companies under the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies Deposit Ordinance (Cap. 34), and those made under the Life Insurance Com- panies Ordinance (Cap. 36), are shown in Tables XIII and XIV respectively.
