up to four feet by three feet in size, and a Verifax copier capable of taking up to six foolscap copies from one matrix. During the year 3,092 photostat and 5,396 Verifax copies of documents, etc., were made, the latter requiring 4,788 matrices and 12,674 sheets of copying paper. Most of the copies were made for the use of the Department and other Government Departments, but the substantial sum of $13,007 was collected in respect of copies of public records supplied to the public. These fees are included in the figures for the fees of the branches supplying the copies.
Revenue
110. Table XXVI shows the total revenue of the Department for 1960-61, amounting to $2,967,799 as against a total expenditure of $1,728,634. These figures exceed the previous year's by $572,000 and $351,000 respectively.
Personnel
111. Mr. W. K. THOMSON, Registrar General, was on vacation leave from 20th June to 15th December, 1960, during which period Mr. R. H. MUNRO, Deputy Registrar General, acted as Registrar General. Mr. J. A. H. TILLEY, Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Judicature in England, formerly Assistant Land Officer, Tanganyika, arrived in the Colony on 27th June, 1960 to take up his appointment as Legal Assistant.
112. Two senior members of the Department retired during the year. These were Mr. T. W. R. WILSON, Assistant Registrar, Class I, who retired on 1st August, 1960 after ten years' service with the Government, seven with the Department, first as Assistant Registrar in charge of the preparation of the first post-war edition of the Street Index, and then in charge of a Marriage Registry; and Mr. LEE Shu-sun, Class I Clerk, who retired on 16th January, 1961 after 35 years' service in the Land Office. As farewell gifts from their colleagues, Mr. WILSON received a camera and fountain pen set, Mr. LEE a gold wrist watch.
Social and Welfare
113. The annual launch picnic took place on 24th September, 1960, when members of the staff with wives, children and friends, 145 in all, enjoyed a pleasant outing to Picnic Bay on Lamma Island. The senior
