Social
95. Several enjoyable social gatherings were held during the year. In order to introduce Solicitors, and members of the public and other Government Departments with whom the Department has much to do, to the new Offices, the senior officers of the Department gave a cocktail party on the morning of Saturday, 4th July, 1959, and it was evident from the comments then made that everyone was greatly impressed with the general layout and beauty of the views both of the harbour and of the pleasant greenery of Government House gardens. A full departmental party was given on the 30th of the same month to show the families of members of the staff the fine new conditions in which their breadwinners were working. After the first stages of a Table Tennis Tournament, a film show was given in the Library extended by the folding back of the partition dividing it from the Official Receiver's Office, which provides a well-proportioned little hall. A large number of the staff and their families went on a very enjoyable launch picnic to Clear Water Bay on 26th September, and the finals of the Table Tennis Tournament and another film show took place on 11th November, 1959. Finally, what was intended to be the first of a series of Annual Departmental Dinners was held at the Kam Ling Restaurant, where after two hours of dancing, mahjong, Russian poker and divers other games of mysterious moves and import, the party sat down to an excellent dinner unencumbered with speeches.
Acknowledgment
96. Once again grateful acknowledgment must be made of all the assistance and co-operation received from the Government Departments and the Solicitors, Accountants and others with whom the Branches of the Department are constantly in touch. Above all thanks are due to all the members of the staff, from the highest to the lowest, for the very hard work they have done in a year of record activity, and for the cheerful and enthusiastic spirit in which they have done that work.
