OFFICIAL RECEIVER IN BANKRUPTCY AND COMPANIES WINDING UP

50. Sixteen bankruptcy petitions were presented during the year as compared with eight in 1957/58. Two of the sixteen petitions were withdrawn and one amalgamated with another. An order was made under Section 112 of the Bankruptcy Ordinance (Cap. 6) for the administration in bankruptcy of the estate of a deceased debtor, and Receiving and Adjudication Orders were made in the other twelve cases. The Official Receiver was appointed Trustee in eleven cases. In one case the Receiving Order was rescinded, and in another case the question of the appointment of a Trustee was pending at the end of the year.

51. Orders were made by the Court for the winding up of four companies. The Official Receiver became Liquidator in three cases; in the fourth case the appointment of a Liquidator was pending at the end of the year.

Dividends

52. Dividends were declared and distributed by the Official Receiver in five bankruptcies. In several other cases all the available assets have been realized, but the declaration and distribution of a dividend have had to be delayed on account of the heavy pressure of work on new

cases.

Public Examinations and Court Work

53. Public Examinations were held in five cases. Altogether, the legal officers of the Department appeared in Court and in Chambers on sixty three occasions in connexion with bankruptcies and liquidation.

Cases concluded

54. Four Orders of Release in bankruptcy and one in companies liquidation were granted by the Court.

Previous cases still outstanding

55. Thirty outstanding bankruptcies were carried over from previous years, but in ten of these a final dividend has already been paid, and
