Companies Registration
19. The Companies Ordinance (Cap. 32) is based on the United Kingdom Companies Act, 1929 (now replaced by the Companies Act, 1948).
20. During 1957/58, 353 new companies with a total nominal capital of $276,280,240 were incorporated, and thirty seven Certificates of Compliance with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance were issued to foreign corporations which had established a place of business within the Colony. Table VIII gives an analysis of the 353 new companies formed according to the amount of their share capital, with a similar analysis, for comparison, of the companies formed in the five preceding
years.
21. On 31st March, 1958, there were 3,045 local companies on the Register as against 2,791 a year before, and 371 foreign companies as against 369 were registered as having established a place of business in Hong Kong and complied with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance. Table IX shows the countries in which these 371 companies are incorporated.
22. One company was restored to the Register by virtue of a Court Order made during the year.
