Companies Registration.

18. During 1956/57, 260 new companies with a total nominal capital of $168,049,550.00 were incorporated under the com- panies Ordinance, and 29 Certificates of Compliance with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance were issued to foreign corporations which had established a place of business within the Colony. Table VIII gives an analysis of the 260 new com- panies formed, according to the amount of their share capital, with a similar analysis for comparison, of the companies formed in the five preceding years.

19. On 31st March, 1957, there were 2,791 local companies on the Companies Register, as against 2,618 a year before. This figure includes 2 companies restored to the Register by virtue of Court Orders made during the year. On the same date 369 foreign companies were registered as having establish- ed a place of business in Hong Kong and complied with the provisions of Part XI of the Ordinance, as against 353 a year before. This figure also includes 3 companies which had re- established a place of business during the year. Table IX shows the countries in which these 369 companies are incor- porated.
