New Street Index

18. Work on the preparation of a new Street Index to replace the last pre-war edition published in January, 1938, proceeded steadily throughout the year. The examination of Memorials, Crown leases, and Conditions of Sale, Grant, Exchange, etc. recorded in the Land Office, was brought down to 31st December, 1955, which is the date as at which the new Street Index will be made up. A comprehensive physical check of street numbers in Hong Kong was completed, and by the end of the year the street lists for Hong Kong island were typed ready for printing by the Government Printer by the offset litho process. Draft street lists for Kowloon and New Kowloon had also been typed, and the physical check of street numbers there began on 9th March, 1956.
