Deposits by Fire, Marine, and Life Insurance Companies.

27. As at 31st March, 1954, the total amount of deposits made by Insurance Companies with the Registrar of Companies under the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies Deposit Ordinance (Chapter 34) was $6,149,787.50, and the total amount of deposits under the Life Insurance Companies Ordinance (Chapter 36) was $1,679,375.00. Tables XII and XIII respectively give particulars of the deposits under these Ordinances.

28. The statutory requirements with regard to the main- tenance of deposits by Insurance Companies were amended by the Fire and Marine Insurance Insurance Companies Deposit (Amendment) Ordinance, 1953, and the Life Insurance Companies (Amendment) Ordinance, 1953, which came into operation on 11th September, 1953. The main purpose of these amending Ordinances was to exempt from the necessity of making a deposit companies which satisfy the Registrar of Companies that they have complied with the United Kingdom Assurance Companies Acts, 1909 to 1946. The amending Ordinances enable exempted Companies to withdraw deposits already made.
