67 Deeds of Surrender to the Crown comprising 85 lots or sections were registered in 1953/54, and the total of the considerations paid for such surrenders was $643,630.00.

Fees.

6. The total of Land Office fees collected in the year (exclusive of fees collected in the District Land Offices in the New Territories) was $256,909.50, which is a record figure. Table IV shows the totals of fees collected under the main headings during the last ten years for which figures are available.

7. In the New Territories, Land Registration fees collect- ed through the District Land Offices amounted to $31,652.60, (against $41,466 for 1952/53) and Crown Lease fees $270.00.

Stamp Duty.

8. The total amount of Stamp Duty paid on instruments registered was $5,612,611.60, over 6% below the 1952/53 total of $6,007,175.80.

Crown Rents.

9. The number of lots on the Principal Rent Roll was 15,462, 637 more than for the previous year, and the Crown Rents collected totalled $1,173,933.60. Table V gives parti- culars by localities. The principal increases are 38 Marine Lots (Hong Kong), 340 Inland Lots (Hong Kong), 121 Kowloon Inland Lots, and 83 New Kowloon Inland Lots. These increases are mainly due to the determination of the Crown Rents mentioned in paragraph 11, and the issue of new Crown Leases.
