PART I LAND REGISTRY

1. The total number of instruments registered under the Land Registration Ordinance (Cap. 128) for 1951/52 was 6,733, which compares with an average of 3,725 for 1936-1939, the four pre-war years included in Table I appended, and an average of 6,162 for the five years 1946/47-1950/51.

2. The aggregate amount of the considerations stated in the various instruments registered in the Land Office in 1951/52 was $317,974,403.96, which is nearly $73,000,000 greater than the comparable figure for 1950/51, and an all-time record.

3. The totals of instruments registered in the last ten years for which figures are available are given in Table I. Table II gives details of the 6,733 instruments registered in 1951/52 according to their categories, and Table III gives details by months.

Crown Leases.

4. 159 Crown Leases were issued in 1951/52, this being 17 fewer than in 1950/51. The decrease was due to the shortage of qualified staff referred to in paragraph 46 which resulted in the issue of Crown Leases being totally suspended in August and September. Table IV shows the numbers and types of Leases issued by localities.

5. The Crown Lease fees for the year totalled $24,675.00. Table V shows the monthly figures.

6. The numbers of Crown Leases issued, and the totals of Crown Lease fees collected during the last ten years for which figures are available, are given in Tables I and VI respectively.
