Mr. E. H. Sainsbury was in charge of the Land Office until the 21st October, 1949 returning then to the Legal Depart- ment. Mr. P. R. Springall remained throughout the year as Deputy Registrar General in charge of the Companies and Trade Marks Registries, and the Office of the Official Receiver in Bank- ruptcy. Mr. J. B. Maingard shared in the carrying out of the duties of these three Offices for part of the year namely from the date of his appointment as a Deputy Registrar General on the 1st April, 1949 until his departure on leave on the 9th May, 1949, since when he has retired from the Service. His place was taken by Mr. W. K. Thomson who came to the Colony as a Legal Officer in May, 1949, and on Mr. E. H. Sainsbury's return to the Legal Department Mr. W. K. Thomson took over as the Deputy Registrar General in charge of the Land Office. Mr. W. A. Blair-Kerr was seconded to this Department on the 21st October, 1949 and on his appointment on that date as a Deputy Registrar General took over for the remainder of the year the duties of Mr. W. K. Thomson in connection with the Companies Office, the Trade Marks Registry and the work of the Official Trustee.
Mr. G. L. Herdman (Executive Officer Class I) was through- out the year Deputy Registrar of Marriages. Mr. J. I. Barnes, Senior Executive Officer, was attached to the department to assist with Land Office work from the 13th February, 1950, on his return from home leave. The Accounts Branch of this depart- ment is combined with the Accounts Section of the Supreme Court. Due to unforeseen contingencies several changes were necessary during the year in the appointment of Accountant for this combined office, and on the departure on leave of Mr. K. W. Forrow in May, 1949 Mr. D. J. Rendell took charge until the 1st October, 1949 being succeeded by Mr. D. T. Smith. Mr. A. L. Cole assumed control of the Accounts Section from the 21st November, 1949, for the remainder of the year.
The Registrar General wishes to take this opportunity of recording his appreciation of the manner in which all members of the staff of this department have carried out their duties under conditions of abnormally heavy pressure of work.
February, 1951.
W. ANEURIN JONES, Registrar General.
