STAFF NOTE.

29. During the year under review, the following Legal Officers were seconded from the Legal Department to undertake the duties of Deputy Registrar General in charge of the various sections of the work of this department:

Mr. P. R. Springall and Mr. W. A. Blair-Kerr in charge of the Companies, Trade Marks and Patents Registries, the offices of the Official Receiver in Bankruptcy and of the Official Trustee, Mr. W. K. Thomson being in charge of the Land Office. Throughout the year Mr. G. L. Herdman held the office of Deputy Registrar of Marriages, and Mr. A. L. Cole was the Accountant to the department in which capacity he acted as Accountant for the Supreme Court and the Legal Department. With effect from the 5th June 1950 Mr. W. A. Blair-Kerr was appointed a Magistrate in the Kowloon Magistracy and on the 12th June 1950 Mr. D. E. Greenfield was seconded from the Legal Department to take over Mr. Blair-Kerr's work for the remainder of the year. Mr. J. I. Barnes, Senior Executive Officer, assisted in Land Office work up to the 29th October, 1950 when he was transferred to the Stores Department.

30. The Registrar General wishes to take this opportunity of record- ing his appreciation of the manner in which all members of the staff of this department have carried out their duties under conditions of heavy pressure of work and shortage of staff.
