10 cents and 5 cents. This ex-gratia compensation is determined after the cultivator has been interviewed at the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs, or, in the New Territories, at the District Office. A further special ex-gratia payment is made in lieu of the estate shops for which former cultivators were at one time eligible. Crop compensation and any other compensa- tion for private land due under the Crown Lands Resumption Ordinance is paid before the land is finally cleared.
