RESETTLEMENT DEPARTMENT

ORGANIZATION AND STAFF

98. The organization of the department as at 31st March, 1965 may be seen from the chart at Appendix IX. There are four divisions, describ- ed briefly as follows:

(a) the Estates and Areas Division, headed by an Assistant Commis- sioner and assisted by an Administrative Officer, is responsible for the management and administration of resettlement accom- modation which includes multi-storey estates and factories, and cottage resettlement areas;

(b) the Operations Division, headed by an Assistant Commissioner who is also responsible for general administrative matters, com- prises two sub-divisions, namely:

(i) the Clearance sub-division, under an Administrative Officer, which is responsible for the clearance of squatters into reset- tlement accommodation;

(ii) the Squatter Control sub-division, headed by an Administra- tive Officer, which is responsible for the control and preven- tion of new unlawful structures and for resiting operations;

(c) the Works Division, headed by a Maintenance Surveyor seconded from the Public Works Department, is responsible for mainte- nance work in resettlement estates, as well as construction and maintenance work in cottage and resite areas and the preparation of plans for cultivation clearances;

(d) the Headquarters Division, under the Secretary and Senior Execu- tive Officer (Accounts), is responsible for the internal administra- tion of the department.

100. There are 31 senior posts in the department filled by Adminis- trative Officers, Executive Officers, Senior Resettlement Officers and
