97. The Departmental Sports and Welfare Association continued to function actively during the year. Because of the remote locality of the club house at Chuk Yuen Cottage Resettlement Area, the Association. relinquished it in June 1963. It was decided at the Annual General Meeting on 6th May, 1963 that no subscription fee should be levied and that all members of the department should be considered members of the Associa- tion. The Association also approved a proposal to establish a Scholarship Fund for needy children of departmental staff in the name of the retiring President and Commissioner, Mr. C. G. M. Morrison. Voluntary sub- scriptions were called for from the staff and a total amount of $6,657.50 was collected. The award of scholarships is to be considered by an Educa- tion Sub-Committee of the Association.
98. Sporting activities also increased considerably during the year and the usual tournaments for trophies and shields donated by present and past officers were held. A trophy donated by Mr. Paul K. C. Tsui, M.B.E., for the tug-of-war tournament was added to the annual events. Other functions and activities were the annual swimming gala held at Sek Kong Army Swimming Pool, two launch picnics to Picnic Bay and Clearwater Bay, two hikes and nine swimming gatherings, barbecues and picnics.
