In August 1961, Mr. David LAI Kar-wah, Administrative Officer was posted to the department for training and was transferred back to the Secretariat in October 1961 on account of illness.

In November 1961, Mr. Joseph Fox Cho, Executive Officer, Class II was appointed Assistant Secretary/Accountant vice Mr. John No.

In November 1961, Mr. P. DELGOFFE, Building Surveyor on secondment from the Public Works Department proceeded on vacation leave and Mr. B. C. J. ROBERTS, Clerk of Works, Class II was appointed to take charge of the Works Section.

In January 1962, Mr. Cyrus YUNG Ming-chau, Administrative Officer, was posted temporarily to this department for special duties.

In March 1962, Mr. A. T. R. JACKSON, Senior Administrative Officer, was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Resettlement in place of Mr. P. V. DODGE.

In March 1962, Mr. J. A. TOWNER, Administrative Officer, was tem- porarily posted to this department for part-time duties vice Mr. Cyrus YUNG Ming-chau.

96. The departmental Sports Association which was registered as a society in February 1958 was restyled as the Resettlement Department Sports and Welfare Association in September 1961 and has now a membership of 554, representing an increase of 148 over the previous

year.

97. The Association has secured a Club House from Government at a rental of $1.00 per month at Chuk Yuen Cottage Resettlement Area, Kowloon during the year. Since its official opening on 27th October, 1961, the Club House has been frequently used by members to hold meetings and social gatherings.

98. Activities in various sports were colourful and successful. The football tournament for the 'Leeds Trophy' was completed on 9th December, 1961 while the 'Walton Shield' tournament was still in progress at the end of the period under review. The basket ball tourna- ment was completed on 31st March, 1962 with 6 teams in competition. The team and the single table-tennis tournaments were keenly contested. The swimming gala was held on 30th September, 1961 at the Chung Sing Benevolent Society Swimming Pavilion. Teams from the depart- ment also took part with considerable enthusiasm, if not success, in the Inter-Departmental Football and Table-Tennis Tournaments sponsored by the Chinese Civil Servants' Association and in the Swimming Gala of the Urban Services Department. The launch picnic to Picnic Bay on 12th August, 1961 was enjoyed by the staff and members of their families. Another activity introduced into the department during the year was hiking. Nine hikes were arranged and on each occasion
